Lighted Lantern in Burlingame Hills
Techlinea is very happy to feature our latest completed project in Burlingame. This project is particularly exciting to me because I had the opportunity to design the lighting, control, and low voltage systems for my friend, builder and tango instructor, Ed Neale, and to collaborate with Architects Mathew Peek & Renata Ancona. This project was a labor of love since I designed it for specifically for Ed and Nora.
For this home we wanted to highlight the architecture and the many unique features of this residence so we specified miniature state of the art LED light fixtures that can be aimed to accentuate the architect and the many art features and accent details. From the moment you arrive you are greeted by a tiered garden, water features, and a wrap around Koi pond. The highlights of this house are the integrated entry foyer, dining and living room that are designed in an open plan with grand views of the Bay Area, and the sunken master bedroom suite with private garden that also features bay views. The lighting creates a back drop to tall seamless glass walls and accentuate the high ceilings by bouncing lighting off a floating ceiling supported by transom windows; at night the house looks like a shimmering warm and inviting glass lantern. The lighting is designed to be control by Lutron Radio RA dimmers and multi scene keypads as well Android or IOS app based phones. For privacy and sun protection the house is set up to support automated shades and drapes that can also be controlled by the lighting control system.
Our goal was to design the lighting to be warm and welcoming, yet dramatic when needed ( just like Ed and Nora) and to allow the interior to integrate harmoniously with the exterior gardens, koi pond, the patios, and pool area while not detracting from the spectacular views.
Our task was to meld beauty and technology with simplicity; the many features of this home are designed to seamlessly integrate the lighting, security with its multi-point surveillance system, distributed audio and video at the touch of a button from either a keypad or phone. This home is as spectacular as it is inviting, and we’re proud to have been a part of its creation.
